Yale's Union Mollified; Mediation Board Gets Picket Lines Delayed

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Picket lines will not march as previously planned in front of Yale's Administration Building and President Griswold's house this morning, LeRoy F. Case, President of Local 1 of the Federation of University Employees, said last night.

The Connecticut State Board of Mediation and Arbitration has succeeded in bringing the Union and the University together. About 200 of the Union's 500 members held a meeting last Saturday and approved the picket action.

The union is trying to prevent Yale from hiring contractual and student help to replace the maids. Last Friday Yale announced that 75 maids and 25 campus guards would be laid off. Case admitted, however, that the jobs were merely being "abolished" and that the maids affected would be those "of six months to a year's seniority."

Case said that the union will stage a mass rally anyway--probably next Monday.

"We will continue the fight even if it means shutting down the university for the rest of the summer and winter," Case added
