Eliot's crew broke the inter-House three-quarter mile record yesterday with a 4:06 win over Winthrop and Lowell. The previous inter-House record was 4:07.
Two factors prevented the Elephants from increasing their margin of victory. Two varsity eights near the finish line forced the shell to swerve out of line before the end of the race. Also, there was a strong head wind.
Winthrop's time was 4:00, while Lowell completed the course in 4:17. In a second race, Kirkland's first boat beat the Eliot's second by one deck length.
Adams, Eliot Tie for First
Baseball wins yesterday for Adams and Eliot tied the two Houses for first place. The Goldcoasters handed Lowell an 8 to 1 defeat, while the Elephants edged Winhrop's nine, 7 to 6.
Both Houses were also victorious in softball. Adams whipped Lowell, 8 to 3, and Eliot gained another one-point win over Winthrop, 5 to 4.
The baseball playoff between Eliot and Adams will be held Monday.
