Harvard, Three Universities Form GE Scholar Exchange

Harvard has joined Columbia, Yale, and Chicago Universities in a program of internships in General Education, Provost Buck announced last night.

Under the plan, sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation, each University will get three visiting scholars who will will spend an academic year taking part in General Education programs.

The program extends this internship plan, which has been in use at Columbia for the past two years, to three more universities. Internships are designed to show the workings of General Education to educators from non-G.E. institutions.

Selected to come here next fall are: Denham Sutcliffe, professor of English at Kenyon College, Cambier, Ohio; Aaron J. Ihde, associate professor of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin; and Frank Ikle, instructor in Humanities and History at Reed College, Portland, Oregon.

Each scholar will be granted a year's leave from his own institution and will be paid his regular salary. A central office has been set up at Columbia.

Interns will devote one-third of their time to teaching, and will spend the rest of their time studying the General Education program as a whole.
