Glee Club, Choral Praised By N.Y., Washington Critics

New York and Washington criticizes wrote unusually favorable reviews of the Glee Club and Radcliffe Choral Society during their spring concert tour.

"The Harvard Glee Club and the Radcliffe Choral Society constitute threw of the finest singing societies in America--a men's choir, a women's choir, and a mixed choir," according to Virgil Thompson, New York Herald Tribune music critic.

Paul Hume of the Washington Post wrote, "They exemplify the finest kind of choral art."

Hume, who reviewed the Washington concert, lauded "their well-balanced program, their thrilling performance of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex, and the model taste in tone, phrasing, and style with which they sang Vittoria and Handel."

Thomson, applauded the excerpts from Oedipus Rex and praised the Latin motets as equally outstanding. His advice to music lovers is "that they have not heard the Renaissance motets unless they have heard them sung by the Harvard Glee Club."

The Glee Club returned last night from the last concert of its tour in Pittsburgh. The Choral Society accompanied them only as far as New York.

On Friday, the Glee Club will sing with Bryn Mawr's chorus at Bryn Mawr. On Saturday, the Club will go back to Washington for a concert at the Pan-American Union.
