8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports

Crimson Defeats Tar Heel Tennis Team Away, 8-7

"An inexperienced Crimson tennis team can claim it won one out of its four contests on its Southern trip, at least on paper," Coach Barnaby said last night.

An 8-7 win over a strong North Carolina team gave the Crimson its only victory of the trip and Harvard's first win in history over a Tar Heel tennis team. But the win was strictly informal.

North Carolina was leading 5-0 on the first day when rain prevented completion of the match. The next day everything was begun all over with switching in the order of men to prevent repeat matches of those played the day before. Harvard got most of its wins in the bottom brackets.

Following this, the team played two matches with Davidson, dropping both, 12 to 4 and 10 to 6. A 6 to 3 loss to Navy completed the trip.

Coach Jack Barnaby summarized the trip by saying, "The team lacked practice and experience, but on the whole played well."
