Varsity Nine Meets B.U. Here Today

Ward Slated to Pitch Team's Local Debut

Experience may make a difference in the local varsity baseball opener this afternoon when a team that has played seven games moves onto Soldiers Field to challenge Coach Stuffy McInnis' squad, which has played, and lost, one.

Harvard and Boston University meet at 3:45 p.m.

The Terriers, however, have only a two-and-five record to show for their experience. On a southern trip last month Coach Harry Cleverly's nine defeated Woffard and then lost to Davidson, Wake Forest, and two games to North Carolina. At home B.U. lost to Rhode Island and came back yesterday to down Boston College, 3 to 1. The Crimson dropped its only contest to Navy last weekend, 5 to 2.

McInnis has two possible changes in mind from the Annapolis lineup. Second baseman Harry Cavanaugh has been in the Infirmary since being hit by a pitched ball in pratice earlier this week. He will probably be replaced by Hank Young. And if Cleverly starts a left-handed pitcher, McInnis will probably substitute lefty Walt Greeley for Bob Smith in right field.

Sophomore Bob Ward will start on the mound for the Crimson, and B.U. will give the pitching assignment to either lefty Bob O'Donnell or right-hander Joe Kowalski. Terrier ace Lu Luoni pitched yesterday.

B.U. has only two veterans in Captain Ken Rickson at shortstop, and Sol Sherman on third. Rickson, center fielder Ernie Corcoran, and right fielder John Poce have proved the three most dangerous hitters on the Terrier squad.
