City Invites M'Arthur To Speak Here in May

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

General Douglas MacArthur has been invited by the Cambridge City Council to speak here on Memorial Day. Councilman Joseph A. DeGuglielmo '29 was the only one of nine Council members to vote against the invitation, which was introduced by Councilman Joseph A. McNamara.

DeGuglielmo said last night that he objected with regret to the Council's offer of hospitality. At its meeting, he went on record saying, "We should not receive and fete a soldier who was fired because he disobeyed orders."

Should MacArthur appear here around Commencement time, he would probably receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree which the University has been holding for him since 1946.
