F. Skiddy Von Stade, Jr. '38, Director of Scholarships, will replace Mason Hammond '25 as Housemaster of Kirkland House during next year, Provost Buck announced yesterday.
Hammond, who is Pope Professor of Latin Language and Literature, will take a year's leave of absence. He has applied for a Fulbright scholarship and plans to do research in Italy if awarded the grant.
He took over as Kirkland's Housemaster in 1946 and has served continuously in that capacity for the past five years. He will resume his duties in the fall of 1952. He is also a member of the Board of Syndics of the University Press.
Von Stade was an assistant Dean from 1940 to 1942. Up to now he has had no connection with Kirkland House. He was a resident of Adams House when an undergraduate.
Ever since Hammond became Master of Kirkland, the House has been noted for "breakfast table education." He has always insisted that tutors join students at meals.
