Princeton Sextet Wins 8 to 3 Victory

Princeton's second line was too much to the varsity hockey team last night, as the Tigers pounded out an 8 to 3 victory ever the Crimson in the Arena.

The combination of Bill Gall, Hank Fethteld and Gene Cleaves scored seven of the Nasan goals.

It wasn't until the third period that Princeton's superiority became evident. The Crimson had managed to hold onto a 8 to 3 tie up to that time, thanks to two goals by Amory Hubbard and one by Jee Kittredge.

But in the final period, Princeton was skating through the varsity's defense with case, and the Princeton defense, led by hard checking Vic Williams, kept the Crimson from putting together organized thrusts.

Even when the varsity got shots at Tiger goalie Rod Cole--and it did get off many shots from outside--there was never a Crimson lineman in position to put in the rebounds.

The Crimson defense was forced to hang back to guard against Princeton's fast-break and "basket hanging" offense, and hence could not control the blue line on offense. Despite these precautions. Princeton managed to spring a man loose twice. But Crimson goalie Nato Corning looked good as he stood off these fine solo rushes by Hothfeld and Gall.

The game was one of the cleanest seen on Arena ice this year, as the refs called only two penalties, both against Harvard.

The loss was the varsity's second of the year to Princeton. The team dropped an earlier encounter, at Nassau, 5 to 4. As a result, the best the Crimson can look forward to is a three-way Big Three hockey tie if it licks Yale in New Haven Saturday. Yale has beaten Princeton twice, and the Crimson took the Elis, 4 to 0, at the Arena last Saturday.

All the flash of the triumph over Yale was gone last night, as the Tigers consistently outchecked the varsity and beat it to loose pucks. Even the Crimson's usually good passing declined in the third period, as the varsity failed in its efforts to overcome Princeton's growing lead.
