"Prayer is absolutely necessary for a good life," Dr. Nels F. S. Ferre, Professor of Philosophical Theology at Vanderbilt, said last night.
In the second of a series of four talks on "Meaning and Chaos" in Memorial Chapel, he added that only through prayer can we reach a sense of the final reality.
Ferre said that to pray correctly one must relax, indulge in recollection, meditate in silence, and pray for restoration. He advocated a revival of the family altar, which gives the growing child a feeling of security.
"The secret of prayer," he said, "is to be able to trust God so that our whole life is lived in his presence."
