Financier Edward S. Harkness, originator of the House system, left $61,547,405 to educational, medical, and charitable organizations, a final accounting of his estate revealed yesterday. Harkness died January 29, 1940.

Harvard, Yale, and Columbia each received $1,538,685. The Commonwealth Fund, a Harkness family philanthropic organization devoted to medical education and British-American student exchange, received $30,773,702.
