Eli Cox Sinks With Oxford in Submarine Race on Thames

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Saturday's rowing classic, the Oxford Cambridge race, was literally washed out and postponed until today when the Oxford shell sank during the first three minutes.

The winner of the race will meet the Crimson and other local crews on the Charles April 14.

It was a former Yale coxswain, George Alexander Carver who found himself forced to cry "this is ridiculous" after five strokes. Then the shell slid under. Carver had twice unsuccessfully piloted the Elis against a Harvard crew but never before did he lose under such ignominious circumstances. The opposing Cambridge shell also almost bubbled under into the choppy Thames.
