CAA Official Condemns Sky Coaches, Calls Train Travel More Dependable

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Sky Coaches are the most dangerous means of transportation, a spokesman from the Civil Aeronautics Authority said yesterday. He claimed that "they haven't any of the modern conveniences."

"All that you get when you travel by Sky Coach is bus service," he added. "If you are looking for a quick, dependable way to go home, Sky Coach is not the way. Where the scheduled airlines offer you plush seats, modern planes, and on-time service, the non-scheduled lines have old planes, overcrowded flights, inconsiderate help and a chance that you might not take off on schedule."

Sky Coaches don't take off until they get a full load, even if they have to wait, he said. The company that you book with will not be the one which takes you to your destination. It probably doesn't own any planes, but only books passengers for independent companies.

A Logan Airport official agreed that "if you want to get home on time, you'd better steer clear of the unscheduled flights."

Train travel looks like the best way for time service at a reasonable cost. Trains pull-out of Boston every hour next Friday for New York, and the railroads plan to put on more trains to handle the extra travel. To points out west, trains will run as scheduled, with a few cars to be added if the travel is unusually heavy.

Trains More Convenient

You'll find it much more convenient to take a train from Boston than to have to go down to New York to catch an unscheduled flight west, a South Station ticket agent affirmed.

If money does not enter into the picture, a reservation on one of the major airlines is the quickest way to travel. Scheduled airlines make the trip from Boston to Chicago in little over four hours, and to Los Angeles in little more than 13 hours.
