George Russell, Agassiz '84 left approximately $1,250,000 to the University to be used exclusively by the Museum of Comparative Zoology, his will revealed yesterday. Agassiz' widow was left an equal amount.
A grandson of the famed biologist, Agassiz died February 5 at his home in Dedham.
Unlike the rest of his family, he was not an outstanding scientist, but carried on family tradition with his many gifts to the University Observatory and Museum of Comparative Zoology.
Agassiz had close connections with the University for over 70 years. He was elected to the Board of Overseers in 1924 and served as its president from 1931 to 1934.
He was elected president of the Alumni Association in 1937 and received an honorary doctorate in law here in 1938 during his term as president.
The family had long been closely connected with the Museum of Comparative Zoology, with the deceased holding a governorship there
