Dick Button is favored to retain his North American title this weekend when 30 top-rank figure skaters from Canada and the United States compete in Calgary, Alberta, in the men's and women's divisions. Button has won the world championship for four years in a row.

His strongest challengers will be Peter Firstbrook of Toronto, and James Grogan of Tacoma, Washington.
