B.C. Dumps Sextet, 10-9

For twenty minutes last night Cooney Weiland's varsity hockey team looked like a championship club against B.C., but it died in the last period and the Eagles scored five straight goals to eke out a 10 to 9 win at the Arena. The Crimson will try to do better at 9 p.m. tonight against Northeastern on the Arena ice.

After a slow first period, the Crimson exploded with seven goals in the second stanza, jumping to a 9 to 5 lead over B.C. The Eagles had a 3-2 lead at the beginning of the period and stretched it to 4 to 2 at 42 seconds with Harvard one man down. But Bob DiBlasio converted a drop pass from Doug Anderson after Johnny White's rebound at 7:45, and Anderson knocked in DiBlasio's rebound 11 seconds later to tie the score. The Eagles pulled ahead again two minutes afterwards, but then the Crimson smothered them with five quick goals.

Bill Bliss sank a screen shot from the blue line at 12:59, and less than two minutes later Amory Hubbard took a Bill Timpson pass and, crossing in front of the net, faked the goalie out and backhanded it in behind him. Then after White knocked in a DiBlasio rebound with one Eagle in the penalty box, the first line scored twice in 21 seconds with B.C. still a man down. Joe Kittredge made both tallies, the first on a Hall Marshall pass, and the second on Bliss' rebound after Preston's pass out. With these goals plus assists on the first two Crimson scores, Kittredge added four points to his league-leading total, bringing it to 36.

But a different Harvard team took the ice in the last period. Lack of practice during exams told, and all the scrappiness and precision disappeared. B.C. beat Crimson goalie Nate Corning five times out of 12 shots, while Eagle Joe Carroll was kicking out 10. Weiland took out his goalie with a minute to play, but the six Crimson forwards couldn't tie it up.
