Student Council Plans To Probe Book Fines, Extend 9:00 Deadline

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An investigation of methods for fining students for overdue books was unanimously approved last night by the Student Council. Members of the committee will also ask that the present 9 a.m. deadline be extended to 9:15 a.m.

Richard E. Johnson '53, the motion's sponsor, contended that some students are fined $.75 for books five minutes overdue. Others held that Lamont has no definite procedure for fining students, since some students have not been fined on certain days for late books while other times they have been charged the usual $.75.

Benjamin F. MacDonald '52 announced that Permanent Class Committee elections will be held on Thursday and Friday at the Dudley Commuter's Center and Friday afternoon elsewhere.

The Council turned down a proposal that courses having no reading period should not have their exams during the, first few days of exam period. Also, on petition of the Dunster Dunces, the Council unanimously voted to recognize the singing group.
