Captain Lew Preston and defenseman John White personally led the varsity hockey team to a 10 to 2 victory over Army on West Point's Smith Rink Yesterday. The win ended a four-game Crimson losing streak.
Preston, back on the wing after a brief whirl at center, scored the first two Crimson goals, and set up two others. White, the new center, also scored twice, besides assisting on two counters and playing an outstanding game on the backline.
Utilizing good ice and Army defensive weakness, the crimson skated faster and passed more sharply than in any of the past few games. Harvard went ahead on three goals within a minute and two seconds in the middle of the first period.
Although the Crimson showed need of polish in many spots, the improvement over recent weeks was considerable. Spirit stayed high throughout, especially on the defense, where White, Harry Sedgwick, and Dusty Burke--who split the assignments--showed very well containing the rough Army forwards.
The freshman team lost to St. Paul's 7 to 5, at Concord Saturday.
