Columbia couldn't have lost to anyone Saturday night--certainly not the Crimson basketball team, which played well and lost just the same 90 to 63. The Harvard made a good 30 percent of their shots--the Lions dropped in 54 percent in the first half to gain a 47 to 35 lead.
The losers, dropping their fifteenth out of 21 games, could not cope with the inspired home quintet, which clinched at least as tie for the Eastern League title by winning. John Azary, Lion captain, tossed in 32 points for a new Columbia record. Azary's mates passed up some very good shots to let him get the ball.
The Crimson was aggressive, but lost the ball often on obvious misplays. Norm Shepard had his men playing a fast running game, something which contributed to the high score. Jim Gabler did outstanding work for the visitors, getting 13 points and playing a good defensive game.
The Yardlings coasted to their sixth straight win Saturday at the Blockhouse at the expense of the University of New Hampshire freshmen. In the Yardlings' 70 to 56 victory, Captain Bill Dennis got 23 points, Ed Blodnick 20, Ed Condon 11, and Bob Gremp seven.
