University Will Take Inventory of Trees

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

After 315 years, the University is going to discover how many trees it possesses.

The Department of Buildings and Grounds will undertake this spring to count and catalogue all the trees on the University property. The staff will also determine how healthy the tree is, how much work has been done on it recently, and how much will have to be done in the near future.

Before the axe is applied to a major branch, not to mention a whole tree, the operation has to be cleared with Vice-President Reynolds' office and the department near which the tree stands. Thus the cutting of trees by the river is always cleared with the appropriate Housemaster.

The University spends more than $25,000 annually in the care of its trees.
