Varsity Quintet Will Meet 2nd Place Cornell Tonight

At 8 p.m. this evening the Crimson basketball team, sixth in the Eastern League, will meet second place Cornell. The Big Red will naturally be favored, but the varsity is about due for an upset, having lost its last two games to Columbia and Penn after holding the lead for a great part of the game.

Visiting coach Roynor Greene will start a quintet composed of three seniors and two juniors, co-captained by Walt Ashbaugh and Paul Gerwin.

Cornell, which has a record of 13 and four, depends on Ashbaugh, Gorwin, and Red Chadwick for scoring. The three usually all hit for double figures. Gerwin uses a push shot, Chadwick shoots from the outside, and Ashbaugh scores on driving layups.

The other two starters for the New Yorkers will be six four center Fred Eydt and guard Sam MacNeil. Greene has a strong bench, led by juniors Larry Goldsborough and John Warner. Warner, who is six four, started several games last year for the Big Red.

Crimson coach Norm Shepard will stick with his usual starting lineup and game tactics. He hopes for a win since Cornell has lost to Columbia by 19 and ten point margins, while the Lions took Harvard by seven. There will be no freshman game, but Kirkland meets Eliot at 6 p.m.
