Reischauer Slams Oriental Dealings

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. Edwin O. Reischauer, professor of Far Eastern Languages, criticized the Far Eastern policy of the United States in a speech at Wellesley College Wednesday night.

He attributed the Korean and Chinese failures to the fact that America has built its friendship with these nations on a military rather than ideological basis. Dr. Reischauer does approve of the U.S. dealings with Japan, however. Citing the democratic constitution set up in Japan as the best in the world, he believes that China would follow in her example if trade relations were allowed to be established between the two nations.
