"This place has been dead for the past week," Louis Eddy. Managing Editor of the McGill Dally, the student newspaper at McGill University in Montreal, told the CRIMSON recently.
Two weeks ago McGill cancelled all extra-curricular activities for a seven day period, closed down the Student Union, and told the McGill Dally to cease publication.
The faculty and the student government took this action because of the high number of failures, especially among the first year students. By cancelling all outside activities, the authorities hoped that students would spend their time studying.
"The libraries were chock full," Eddy said.
