Archibald MacLeish, Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, was elected chancellor of the American Academy of Arts and Letters at its meeting in New York this week.

Membership in the academy is a distinction that designates each person as a creative artist whose works are likely to achieve a permanent place in the nation's culture.
