Yardlings Defeat Tech Five, 66-37

After a tight first quarter, the Yardling basketball team opened up with seven successive baskets against MIT's freshman five to win its season opener, 66 to 37.

Coach Floyd Wilson used 14 men, but Paul Shaw and Rolin Perry, who pushed for 16 and 14 points respectively, were the mainstay of the Crimson attack.

Wilson did not think the victory was necessarily indicative of the squad's future performances. He said the breakdown of the Tech defense in the second quarter was the decisive factor in the win. "It was a typical first game," he commented. "We were a little rough in places, but we showed some promise." He singled out Dick Manning's play at center for special praise.
