No Subsidies for the Band

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

In order to avoid any possible misinterpretation of Lloyd Jordan's statement (at the fall meeting of the Massachusetts State Coaches Association) to the effect that scholarships are given to the Band, I would like to make clear that no scholarships are given to Bandsmen as such.

In no case within the knowledge of the Band staff is present or potential membership, in the Band a decisive factor in the awarding of scholarships. The Band has no control over any scholarship funds, and any Band members who hold scholarships do so quite independently of their Band membership.

I hope that this letter will not be construed as containing any explicit or implied comment by the Band on Mr. Jordan's policies or on the subsidization of athletes. the only point is that, in the Harvard Band at least, there is no subsidization of musicians, nor indeed, of the Band itself by the University. Tony Siegman '53   Publicity Manager,   Harvard Band
