Harvard Grad Tells Senators Phone Is His Key to Success

If success in the future is the object of the Business School, then a three week accelerated course in the use of the phone may be necessary to add.

Donald Marks '45 testified yesterday before a Senate subcommittee that he had built up a $300,000 steel brokerage by working "like a machine" at the telephone. Marks did not attend the Business School.

Marks spoke before Senator Blair Moody's committee investigating the tripling of the price of steel going from producer to the consumer. Marks said that he used four phones, from six in the morning to seven at night, and that his phone bill amounted to $15,000 last year. The Harvard man stated that his average mark-up was about 15 percent.
