In the only other House hockey game yesterday, Kirkland and Lowell fought to a 3 to 3 deadlock. Dan Getchell scored twice for the Deacons. Winthrop and Eliot meet in the only hockey match scheduled for today.
In the "A" squash league, Winthrop fashioned a 3 to 2 victory over Adams.
In the freshman basketball National League, Wigglesworth West won its ninth straight game and clinched the league title as it drubbed Grays, 26 to 16. Weld North tripped Massachusetts by one point when Steve Chinlund sank a difficult corner shot with ten seconds remaining in the game. Matthews South scored an upset victory over Hollis, 22 to 20. With four seconds left, Matthews' Ed Murphy rolled the ball down the length of the court to eat up the remaining time. In the other game, Thayer South defeated Lionel, 17 to 8.
In the American League, Stoughton won an overtime 22 to 20 contest from Straus North as Buddy Rogers scored for the margin of victory. In other games, Weld South walloped Mower, 37 to 17, Thayer North beat Wigglesworth East, 26 to 22, while Thayer Middle forfeited to Matthews North.
