Varsity wrestlers, trailing by 13 to 8 at one point, finally overtook a surprising Williams team to win their third straight meet, 20 to 15, Saturday at the Blockhouse. In the preliminaries, the Crimson freshmen remained undefeated, crushing the jayvees, 33 to 0.
In the opening match at 123, Eddie Bursk was pinned at 4:15 with a body press. Bud Adams at 130 threw his opponent in the second round, but Frank Dewar at 137 was pinned. Icko Iben won a 9 to 4 decision in the 147-pound class, and Chick Chandler lost by the same score.
With the Purple ahead 13 to 8, the next three matches provided a couple of injuries. Failure of the Williams 167-pounder to make the weight gave the Crimson a gift of five points: The match was held as an exhibition, and Joe Hubbard sprained his neck when he held a neck bridge for 40 seconds to avoid a pin.
Dave Morris at 177 held Williams' Hugh Murphy to an 8 to 8 draw, and in the heavyweight class, Dick Southerland dislocated his shoulder in the opening seconds, giving a victory by default to the Crimson's George Bates.
