Joseph Mitinger, a mainstay of the line during the past season, was chosen today to captain the 1952 Yale football team.
The 20-year old guard has played on the defensive platoon for two seasons, and was first-string guard with the '53 Eli squad. Against Harvard on Saturday, Mitinger played the entire defensive game. The Yale Daily News referred to him as the "unsung here of the Blue line" and "the defensive backbone of the team."
Mitinger, who succeeds Bob Spears, is the son of former Lafayette football star Robert Mitinger, and the nephew of American League umpire Charlie Berry. He also won a J.V. baseball letter.
