Bliss Perry Reaches 91

Bliss Perry, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of English Literature, emiritus, celebrated his 91st birthday Sunday Long considered one of the world's leading authorities on Emerson, Perry taught at the University from 1907 to 1930, and served as an Overseer from 1935 to 1941.

In addition to his studies of Emerson, Perry has written books dealing with the lives and works of Carlyle, Whitman, and Whittler. He received an honorary Litt. D. from the University in 1925.
