Bunche Refuses Top CCNY Post

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Ralph Bunche professor of Government on leave as head of the United Nations Division on Trusteeship, has refused an offer to succeed Harry N. Wright as President of New York City College, The Campus, CCNY daily, reported yesterday.

Trustees notified Bunche of their offer last Wednesday, while he was in Paris at U.N. meetings. He replied that he would be unable to take the position because of "present commitments to the United Nations."

Bunche was given a professorship in Government at Harvard in April, 1950. He is now on leave of absence from the University as of September 1, 1950, and it is unknown whether his commitment here influenced his refusal of the C.C.N.Y. offer.

C.C.N.Y. President Wright has announced his intent to retire as of September, 1952.

Clarifying his position, Bunche said, "I believe in the U.N., and I want to see that job through first. Unless peace can be established through the U.N., no academic job will be worth anything."
