Officials May Inquire About College Stills

Cambridge Police Chief Patrick F. Ready said yesterday he would consult "soon" with University police head Alvin R. Randall, on the illegal stills operating within the University. He also said he would probably assign two detectives to the case if there are moonshiners.

Meanwhile, Arthur D. Trottenberg, operating manager of College Houses denied any knowledge of moonshine activity in the University Internal Revenue headquarters would not comment.

After yesterday's story, the still whose picture appeared in the CRIMSON was quickly dismantled by its owners and distributed among the Boston dumps. Other moonshiners are preparing a like move in the event of a federal crack-down.

Largest Still

The largest of the illegal stills has been in operation all fall. The students who own it have produced rum and applejack 150 proof, according to reports.

The students involved in the brewing operations have denied selling any of their potions, and claim no illness has resulted from their consumption.
