8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Adams and Dudley continued their winless ways as they lost to Eliot and Dunster elevens, respectively, in House football contests yesterday. In wet, sloppy affairs, the Elephants handed the Gold Coasters their fifth straight loss, 7 to 0, while the Commuters dropped their fifth in a row to Dunster, 14 to 0.
The Dunster victory snapped a losing streak during which the Funsters had lost three consecutive heart-breakers. Muddy grounds confined almost all of the play to running, and Commuter backs were easily outclassed by Dunster speedsters.
Top Trio
A trio of backs, wingback Mark Noble, fullback Bob Smith, and halfback Jack Brophy were the main cogs in the Dunster attack. In the second period, they sparked a scoring drive that sloshed 63 yards through the mud.
With Smith and Noble circling the ends, and Brophy smashing through the middle of the line. Dunster brought the ball to the Commuters' 20. Here, Noble swept around end for the touchdown, while Smith scored the extra point on an end run.
In the fourth period, the same backfield combination drove 58 yards to the Dudley two-yard line, where Brophy plunged over for the tally. Again, Smith made the extra point on an end sweep.
Eliot Needs Score
Eliot needed only, one successful scoring drive to top Adams in an uneventful contest John Keane and Charlie Cabot provided key runs in a 53-yard march which culminated with Fred Rhinelanders three yard sweep around end. On the same play Rhinelander scored the extra point.
The Gold Coasters threatened only once, after recovering an Eliot fumble on the Elephants' 20. But the threat died on the very next play when Hank Greenberg intercepted a pass by Adams' Ted Cook and returned it to the Eliot 35.
In House soccer games yesterday, Leverett trounced Dudley, 4 to 0, while the league-leading Funsters won on a forfeit ever Winthrop.
