Senator Richard M. Nixon (R-Calif.) blasted the Administration last night at the Hotel Statler during one of the biggest Republican Dinners in Massachusetts for years.
The turnout, well over 1,500 people, was so large mostly due to a provision allowing anyone to come who could raise $100 in small contributions. The Harvard Young Republican Club was represented by 12 members who each collected the necessary sum. According to one of them, Roger Moore '53, "The people they had to speak (Nixon, news commentator Robert Montgomery, Senators Saltonstall and Lodge) represent the branch of the G.O.P. which the H.Y.R.C. has always found the easiest to support."
Nixon belabored the Administration for appropriating "over $100,000,000,000 for the armed forces since World War II and yet only one and one half divisions ready for combat when the Korean War broke out....
"Instead of begging and bribing our allies to support policies . . . let us develop the courageous, firm leadership which commands the respect of our allies, not their contempt."
