Dunster Gridders Top Deacons, 6-0, For 2nd Place Tie

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dunster moved into a tie for second place in the House football league yesterday by topping Kirkland, 6 to 0, on a second quarter 80-yard run by tailback Marcus Noble.

The Deacons threatened several times in the closing minutes of the last period when they moved the ball as far as the Funsters' 10-yard line, but they couldn't make their offense pay off in points. A Kirkland pass to the end zone on the final play was knocked down as the whistle blew.

The winners had one big chance to fatten their point margin in the second quarter, but it never materialized. A long completed Dunster pass was called back because of an ineligible receiver down field.

Funsters Knock Kirkland

In the House touch football league, the Funsters went on a scoring rampage against Kirkland, racking up six touchdowns to shut out the Deacons, 36 to 0. Dunster scored three times in the first period, once on a pass from the 20-yard line by Bill Gryboski to end Gerry Murphy, and twice on Kirkland passes intercepted by Gryboski and Ted Johnson.

Halfback Hugh Raphael contributed two more touchdowns in the next two periods, and Dunster end Danny Young tallied for six points in the last period to end the scoring spree.

Jim McMorrow's accurate passing sparked Dudley's touch football team to a 34 to 0 triumph over a completely outclassed Puritan team. McMorrow threw four touchdown heaves to Ambrose Redmond and Jim Anderson, and Ray Buttman scored for the Commuters in the last period when he intercepted a Winthrop pass and ran 45 yards for a score.
