Mikkola Recuperates From Sudden Surgery

Track and cross-country coach Jaakko Mikkola underwent surgery for an abdominal obstruction over the weekend, the Athletic Association revealed yesterday.

Officials at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, where the colorful Mikkola is recovering, described his condition last night as "quite satisfactory."

Freshman coach Bill McCurdy directed the runners in their workout yesterday, but it is not yet certain who will replace Mikkola, or how long he will be out.
