Band Will Try 4 Day Sale of 1,000 Ducats

Manager Says Special Concert, If Entirely Sold Out, Could Pay for Band Trip to Cornell

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Unless the Band sells 1,000 tickets to its Sanders Theater concert between Monday and Thursday next week, it will miss its first Eastern football game since before the war.

Band executives announced after a meeting last night that they will try to pay for the trip to Cornell a week from tomorrow by selling ducats for a special concert to be given the Friday night before the Dartmouth game on October 27. If undergraduates buy out Sanders next week, Frank W. Hopkins '52, Band Manager, stated that the proceeds will partly cover costs. They hope that alumni contributions will make up the rest.

One Final Try

Hopkins said that the Band's officials had definitely made up their minds not to go when they realized that their treasury would show a deficit after this weekend's trip to Columbia. "But we decided to make one final try. We couldn't give up without taking every chance, even the smallest."

In past years the Band has been able to make all away trips with the help of alumni, members' dues, and the H.A.A. which pays for one trip each fall. But, according to Hopkins, alumni contributions have dropped in recent years. This is usual, since alumni interest naturally rises and falls with the fortunes of the team.

"We will start sales Monday," Hopkins announced. He pointed out that today's trip forces the postponement. And of course, tickets must still be printed and a program prepared.
