Sparked by nine South Americans, a powerful M.I.T. soccer team tripped the Yardlings 3 to 2 away yesterday. Crimson coach Andrew "Poley" Guyda called them "the best M.I.T. freshman soccer team ever fielded against Harvard."
Johnny Youmans started the scoring for the Harvard freshmen when he rocketed a high shot into the upper corner of the net early in the first period. In the second period M.I.T. started to beat the Yardlings to the ball and tallied twice on quick breakthroughs.
Tech scored to start the third stanza, but center forward Dave Wise countered for the Crimson. Led by Captain Mauricio Toro and Alex Haegler the Yardlings began to show some aggressiveness in the last minutes, but they failed to tie up the game.
