Winthrop Eleven Tops Dudley 34-0; Adams, Straus, Lionel, Dudley Win

A powerful Winthrop eleven easily downed winless Dudley yesterday, 34 to 0, to move into first place in the House football league. Previously the Puritans shared the top spot with Lowell, both teams showing 3-0-1 records.

The winners relied on a strong passing attack as quarterback Walt Greeley completed three passes in the end zone. Jim Wykoff set up the first score on a long run early in the first period with Hearnberg circling the end for the touchdown. George Case made good the first of his four conversions.

Lineman Tex Pruit tallied after he blocked a Commuter punt in the second quarter, while Greeley tosses accounted for scores in each of the last three periods with Jim Wykoff, Frank Dorman, and Jack Hernberg receiving. Defensive end Jim Radigan and blocking back Ken Eddy both stood out in less spectacular roles.

In House soccer Adams downed Kirkland in a tight game, the final tally was made when the Deacons left their goal undefended in a futile last minute attack.

The game was hard fought all the way with the outcome uncertain right up to the final minute of play.
