Weld South Romps in Yard's Touch Opener

Wet and slippery playing fields yesterday kept the scores low on the opening day of the freshman touch football season. Weld South, Thayer Middle, Mower, and Straus North of the American League won their first contests. The National League opens today.

Weld South rolled up the biggest score of the day, beating Wigglesworth East, 19 to 7. Wigglesworth scored in the first quarter and led at the half, 7 to 0, but two 30-yard runs by Weld in the third quarter were good for tallies. Weld scored again in the fourth quarter on a short pass.

Thayer Middle's Ross Shaped scored on two intercepted passes as Holworthy lost, 13 to 0. Mower topped Matthews North by the same score, with two touchdowns: one in the second period and one on the last play of the game, when Nick Owen caught a long pass in the end zone.

Straus North defeated Stoughton, 7 to 0, on a pass to Marty Adler late in the first period.
