Jerome Goodman '52 spoke on his experiences as a "maverick" American delegate to the Communist sponsored World Youth Festival in East Berlin this summer Goodman observed and participated in the delegation's activities until he was expelled as a "fasts" and fled to West Berlin.
The Communists have given German youth leadership an ideal to strive for Goodman said, and in the case of the free Germany youth "a sense of destiny can be a very dangerous thing."
In a panel discussion on military service David L. Ratner '52, Editorial Chairman of the CRIMSON, urged the adoption of universal military service rather than the continuation of any form of selective service.
Suzanna Hoeber IG spoke in another panel discussion on academic freedom. She and three other students listed instances where student and faculty rights were abused and urged a return to a situation where these groups were not afraid to express their views.
