U.S.A. Surprises Indian Journalist

An elderly, intense journalist traveled half way around the world in have an illusion shattered, he told the CRIMSON last night.

Joseph Pothan, editor of the Deccan Herald in Bangalore, India, said that his two weeks in America have proven to him that "Americans are not really interested in colonizing India as most Indians think."

U.S. aid has always been locked on with suspicion, said Pothan. The gift of wheat this country sent to India last spring was received warily because most of his countrymen expected American troops to follow.

"But what you have here in this country can last you for 500 years," Pothan said. "It will still take India a while to realize that you only want to help."

Pothan is here to tour the country under an exchange program sponsored by the Pan-American Association.

He was impressed especially by Windener Library, where he chose the most obscure Indian author he could think of and found the catalogue listed some two dose books by the man.
