To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
The Yale 150-lb. crew of 1950 was not undefeated in American competition as stated in your article of October 13 concerning the recent dropping of Roy Rom from the Eli coaching staff. In their first race of the season, the lightweights were beaten by three-quarters of a length by Kent School, which in so doing set a new mile-course record for the Housatonic of 4:52.
At Henley in July of the same year, the prep school boat again was the victor, this time by a sizable three-length margin over a distance of one and five-sixteenths miles. Kent than proceeded to win the Thames Challenge Trophy, which last year was undefended and eventually won by Pennsylvania. Alan O. Dann '55
The CRIMSON regrets the error. Because of the temporary absence of our prep school rowing editor, we were forced to consult the Yale Dally News of October 5, which termed the Ell 1950 lightweight crew "undefeated."
