Cornell Trip Out For Band, Ticket Sales Fall Short

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Harvard Band will not attend the Cornell game, Band manager Frank W. Hopkins '52 announced last night.

The last hopes of the 154-man organization were shattered when it was found that only 250 tickets to the Dartmouth Concert were sold, instead of the required 900. Although the budget for the trip had been pared down to $1,700, the band was still $600 short.

"All our support for these trips has to come from concerts, record sales, and contributions," Hopkins explained. "They are our only support." He said band members were keenly disappointed because "this is the last Cornell game, and hence we felt we ought to go."

Last year's surplus of $1,200 was used up for last week's Columbia game.

The band will travel to New Haven for the Yale game, however. The expenses of that trip will be covered by the H.A.A. Hopkins added that he did not feel the H.A.A. should pick up the check for all the out-of-town games. "They are very generous about giving us one of the trips, and we appreciated it," he said.

With the exception of the 1949 Stanford game, this is the first time since prewar days that the band has not accompanied the football team to an out-of-town game.

Band officials pointed out that the scheduled concert would still go on, of course. "That's still a good idea," they said.
