Dartmouth Might Have Honor Plan

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dartmouth's Undergraduate Council endorsed the examination honor system by a 38 to 3 vote early this week. The proposal will probably be submitted at the next faculty meeting for approval. A student referendum will also be taken.

Under the proposed system at Hanover a man seen cheating by fellow students is told to report to an Honor Council, as yet unformed, within 24 hours. If the accused fails to report himself, his name is turned in to the Council by at least two accusers. The suspect will then face a court trial.

A more tentative recommendation for such a system, based on those at Princeton, Williams, and the University of Virginia, was passed by the Council 13 to 15, last December. Since this majority was so small, this week's remote was called.
