At the rate of one every six seconds, 3,431 upperclassmen field through Memorial Hall yesterday. This figure added to the 1,167 freshmen who signed up Thursday and Friday brings the season's College registration total to 4,598. Ninety who are expected have not yet shown up.
The number of these who failed to register exceeds last year's total of latecomers by about 60. Whether some of the no-shows have been called into the armed service remains to be seen. A ten dollar fine plus possible disciplinary action is the penalty for late registration.
Checking in at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences will continue today and tomorrow and no partial enrollment figures were available yesterday.
The streamlined registration system of Sargeant Kennedy '28, inaugurated last year, once again prevented the long lines which in days of yore made the bi-annual check-in picturesque but painful.
Kennedy noted that the shrinkago from the original estimate of the size of the entering freshman class to the number that finally arrived this year was exceptionally small.
Starting today, the perforated forms which undergraduates have been filling out will go to the University Printing Office where they will be out up and dispatched to the various offices of the University. The entire processing of the registration forms will take about 36 hours.
While the total number of students signed in this year constitutes the smallest student body the College has had since the war, the figure issued yesterday by the Registrar's Office is still 298 above the number 4,300, which Provost Buck last year said was to be the "normal" College post-war student complement.
