More Than 1160 Freshmen Check Into University

About, 1,160 Freshmen check into College Thursday and Friday. No depletion in the first-year roster because of calls from the armed forces was reported as of Wednesday night; nor did this surprise University administrators since few freshmen are of vulnerable age so far as the draft is concerned.

The bulk of the arriving class registers Thursday and its football and musical talent begin activities at 4 and 7:15 p.m. Thursday respectively. Grid candidates appear at Dillon Field House and musicians try out in Paine Hall.

Every state in the Union is contributing to this year's new class. And the District of Columbia, the territories of Hawaii, Puerto Rice, Costa Rica, and 25 foreign countries will also be represented.

The Class of '54 meets as a unit for the first time at 7:30 p.m. Friday night when the Honorable Charles E. Wyzanski, Jr. '27 of the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts and the Board of Overseers, Provost Buck, Dean Bender, and Dean Leighton mix anecdotes and advice in a reception for the new men.

On Sunday there will be an Open House for the new class in the Union and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday freshmen who have not already done so will meet with their advisers to choose the courses they will designate on their preliminary study cards which are due at 5 p.m. that afternoon.

Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m., Phi Beta Kappa members will held an Advising "Smoker" at the Union.

Graduate registration follows the College sign-up Friday and Saturday.
