Peamsyvania State College will open next year with dry prospects. The college's administration has ruled that all bars be out of fraternally houses and students rooms by September.
The colleges has further forbidden possession of alcoholic beverages on campus.
The town of State College has been "dry" since national prohibition ended, although it does permit the sale of beer and ale under a local option rule.
The administration's stated reason for the ban is to cut down heavy student dining held in ill repute by local citizens and generally attributed to administrational laxity, which the citizenry tends to consider administrational approval.
This move follows a trend which has already affected or at least threatened Princeton, Cornell, Brown, and Dartmouth, as well as many other colleges all over the country.
