Almost 2000 students are planning to spend vacation months at the Summer School, Director William Yandell Elliott announced yesterday.
The Williams Professor of Political Science said that current figures show a drop in Harvard enrollment but an increase in enrollment from other colleges. So far, 1000 from the College have signed up, while outside students total 917.
Students will be accepted any time up to the July 5 registration deadline, and Elliott expects this year's totals to fall only slightly short of 1949's 2,800.
School officials also said yesterday that a number of speakers have been added for the weekly conference programs. About 40 speakers are now expected for the conferences on such topics as the Welfare State and Defense of Poetry.
